Daniel Daye

I'm a soon-to-be graduate exploring futures in the IT world. I am ambitious and excited to start my career journey.

About Me

Hello, I’m Daniel! I am currently a student getting ready to graduate from the Computer Systems and Networking Program at College of the North Atlantic in Corner Brook, NL. I am also taking the EC-Council Certified Cybersecurity Technician course through Keyin College.

Enjoying a baseball game in Pittsburgh!

Going aloft on our ship on a hot day in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Shipmate and good friend Emerson by my side.

Visiting a Hobbit house in Hobbiton, Matamata, New Zealand.

I have always been interested in technology. In my free time, I have set up my own home lab, including a built-from-scratch, Linux-based media/file server and a Pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi. I love to build my own computers and perform my own maintenance on desktops, laptops, and servers. I have become experienced with assembly, disassembly, and reassembly of computers and troubleshooting hardware and networking problems.

When I'm not sitting in front of computers or computer components, I enjoy skiing or watching racing, baseball, and Jeopardy!. Someday I wish to visit every major league baseball stadium. I still have a long way to go, having only been to 6 of 30 so far (with missed opportunities in Detroit, Boston, and San Diego)! I'd also love to get on Jeopardy! some day, but I still have A LOT of studying and preparing to do before that ever happens!

While attending school, I’ve worked in retail sales and material handling roles. While working as a technology sales representative at Staples, I developed my customer service skills and became knowledgeable about sales tactics and tech support. I also gained valuable knowledge about logistics during my time as a material handler at JCL Investments Inc.

Prior to beginning my schooling, I was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy, and served for eight great years. My time with the navy has allowed me to develop my leadership and teamwork skills and adapt to high-stress, dynamic situations. It also allowed me to see many parts of the world, which only increased my desire to see more. I love to take the opportunity to travel somewhere new and experience the different foods, people, and cultures that make our world so amazing.

I've travelled to four of the seven continents so far, and someday I would like to visit them all. My dream vacation destinations are New Zealand and Tahiti. I've visited New Zealand once before and I fell so much in love with the rolling hills and magnificent mountains that I promised myself I would return. I've also always wanted to visit the tropical paradise that is Tahiti after reading much about it in the captivating, true sea tale of the Mutiny on the Bounty.
